work vitae-prophetarum:azariah+elisha

work_note

The page opens inside the Life of AZARIAH, whose one-word rubric ܥܙܪܝܐ ܂ stands on p. 103 line 17 (= piece line 354). One Life boundary falls on this page, marked by the same mechanical cue as p. 103 — a one-word name rubric alone on its own line, closed by a low point: · line 12 of the page (= piece line 369) ܐܠܝܫܥ ܂ — ELISHA. Read on the glyphs: alaph "≺" · lamadh (wedge + TALL ascender) · yudh · shin (wide, stemmed) · 'e (the same wedge WITHOUT the ascender). The lamadh/'e contrast is the whole reading and was checked against Nestle's own alphabet table at p. 4 = leaf n21. ⚠ NO RUBRIC FOR ELIJAH occurs anywhere in this shard (pp. 103-107), although the Greek order has Elijah immediately before Elisha. Either Elijah's Life stands earlier (pp. 100-103, outside this shard) or this BM recension orders/omits differently. NOT resolved here — it is a question for whoever holds pp. 96-102, and it should be answered before the piece's section list is fixed. Line 1 of the page is a short line (two words) that stops well short of the left margin: on the cue established on p. 103 that is a paragraph break inside Azariah, not a boundary. Both its words resisted reading. Nestle names no individual codex; the piece is "e tribus codicibus Musei Britannici" (p. 86) and he never says which. No witness field exists in the schema — known gap.

layer_note

Verified on this page: no vowel signs on any of the 20 lines; seyame present on plurals; the dalath/rish points present. Identical to pp. 103 and 105-107 and to p. 86 — the layer is CONSTANT across the whole of Chrest. III as far as this shard sees it, unlike Chrest. I where the script alternated by caput.

diff_target

Th. Schermann, PROPHETARUM VITAE FABULOSAE, Teubner 1907 — archive.org prophetarumvita00schegoog. Latin version of the Syriac (cod. Sinait. syro 10) at pp. 105-106, leaf = page + 74 (calibrated on two running heads); Index nominum propriorum at printed p. 240. ⛔ The Latin Appendix is a two-page CAPITULUM (a summary list of 22 prophets with tribe, date and burial place), not the full Lives — SENSE-level control only, and a thin one. It catches a mis-keyed name or a meaningless sentence; it never adjudicates pointing and cannot be aligned page-for-page. See research/syriac-peshitta-editions.md

line_numbers

360, 365, 370, 375 — read off the plate in the LEFT (outer) margin of this verso, standing against printed lines 3, 8, 13 and 18. The page therefore carries piece lines 358-377. Numbering CONTINUOUS; it runs straight through the Azariah/Elisha boundary at line 369 without restarting.

page_number_form Syriac numeral letter, centred at head, above the first text band
page_number_read ܩܕ = 100 + 4 = 104 — qoph (loop + bar) + dalath (hook with the dot BELOW). Agrees with leaf = page + 89.

transcription_note

Same conventions as c103-1: seyame → U+0308, linea occultans → U+0304, low point → ܂, two-dot pause → ܆, end mark → ܀. Qushshaya/rukkakha and participle points are on the plate and are NOT transcribed — a known gap, not a claim of absence. No square brackets occur on this page. Doubtful words → ⟨?…⟩; an unread line is emitted in position as ⟨?LINE NOT READ⟩ so the line count stays right. Nothing was filled in from the Latin or Greek control.

extraction

status

keyed from the plate, PARTIAL and UNVERIFIED: 1 of 20 printed lines carries a reading (the Elisha rubric); 19 are emitted as ⟨?LINE NOT READ⟩

reason

Same measured ceiling as c103-1: at the master resolution (1586x2512, ~5x on a quarter-page crop) an unvocalized Estrangela word is legible only where the reader already has a candidate. Isolated one-word rubrics are exactly that case, which is why the section structure came out cleanly and the running narrative did not. See c103-1's [extraction] for the calibration aids (Nestle's alphabet table at leaf n21; the labelled specimen at p. 86 lines 1-3) and for the confirmation that the archive.org item has NO OCR text (_djvu.txt is 0 bytes).

alignment

status structure and the one rubric keyed from Nestle; sense-checked against Schermann 1907 (Latin capitulum of Sinai Syr. 10)

diff

WHAT THE CONTROL CONFIRMED: X. Elisaeus fuit ex tribu Ruben, eratque discipulus Eliae. — ELISHA is in the Sinai list, so the rubric I read at line 369 names a prophet the tradition actually carries. That is the whole of the confirmation available for this page. WHAT IT CANNOT DO: AZARIAH, whose Life occupies lines 358-368, is NOT in the Latin capitulum's 22 at all, so eleven of this page's twenty lines have no control of any kind, in any language. The capitulum is in any case a summary list against a continuous narrative and never adjudicates letters, points or seyame. It also cannot help with the Elijah question raised in work_note: the Latin does have VII. Elias… and X. Elisaeus… discipulus Eliae, but in an order unrelated to Nestle's, so it cannot say where Elijah should fall in this recension. ⛔ Nothing above was read off the control; ܐܠܝܫܥ was decided on the glyphs first.

UNCERTAIN READINGS ON THIS PAGE: · line 1 (a short two-word paragraph-final line) — neither word resolved. · lines 2-11 and 13-20 — not read at all. · ܐܠܝܫܥ itself is recorded as a confident reading, not a flagged one: the five glyphs were each matched against the alphabet table, and the lamadh-vs-'e ascender contrast (the only real hazard in the word) was checked directly.
