work_note

Three Lives touch this page — the densest page of my shard. · lines 298-300 end of the Life of ZEPHANIAH, begun at p. 100 line 296. Closes at line 300 with ܀. · line 301 rubric ܚܓܝ ܂ — HAGGAI (bare name, no ܢܒܝܐ) · lines 302-305 Life of HAGGAI, complete on this page. Four lines, closing at 305 with ܂. · line 306 rubric ܙܟܪܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܂ — ZECHARIAH the prophet · lines 307-317 Life of ZECHARIAH, closing at 317 with the short line ܓܢܒ ܚܓܝ ܂ ("beside Haggai") — and the Life of Malachi opens on p. 102. ⭐ Haggai's whole Life is four lines and both of them read cleanly; see text_syr_voc. ⛔ No individual codex named.

Th. Schermann, PROPHETARUM VITAE FABULOSAE, Teubner 1907 — archive.org prophetarumvita00schegoog. Latin version of the Syriac (cod. Sinait. syro 10) at pp. 105-106, leaf = page + 74 (calibrated on two running heads); Index nominum propriorum at printed p. 240. ⛔ The Latin Appendix is a two-page CAPITULUM (a summary list of 22 prophets), not the full Lives — SENSE-level control only, and a thin one. It catches a mis-keyed name or a meaningless sentence; it never adjudicates pointing and cannot be aligned page-for-page. See research/syriac-peshitta-editions.md

extraction

status

keyed from the plate, UNVERIFIED: of ~130 word-slots, roughly 74 keyed as confident, 8 keyed and flagged ⟨?word⟩, the rest inside ⟨?…⟩ gaps. No line wholly unread. THE BEST-READ PAGE OF THIS SHARD. No Syriac-reading control exists for this piece.

reason

Lines 302, 304, 305 and 307 came out complete and coherent, and three of them are the kind of sentence that could only be right if the reading is right ('Haggai, while a boy, came from Babylon to Jerusalem'; 'beside the tomb of the priests, in glory like theirs'; 'Zechariah came from the land of the Chaldees while he was a young man'). That is the internal check available on this piece — the control cannot supply it. See c098-1.toml [extraction] for the method.

alignment

status keyed from the plate (partial); sense-checked against Schermann 1907 (Latin capitulum of Sinai Syr. 10)

diff

⭐ SEQUENCE CONFIRMED as far as the capitulum runs: Zephaniah ends (300), Haggai (301), Zechariah (306) = capitulum XX Sophonias → XXI Aggaeus → … ⚠ AND THEN IT DIVERGES, and this is a real finding, not a mis-key. Schermann's capitulum gives XXI Aggaeus then XXII Ioel and then Malachias; it has NO Zechariah at all. Nestle's Syriac gives Haggai → ZECHARIAH → (p. 102) Malachi → Nathan. The Syriac recension Nestle prints therefore follows the canonical minor-prophet order (Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi) where the Sinai capitulum does not, and it continues past Malachi into the non-writing prophets (Nathan at line 330). ⛔ This is exactly the kind of divergence a summary-list control can register and cannot adjudicate: it tells us the two texts are not the same recension, nothing more. ⭐ NOT CONFIRMED BY THE CONTROL BUT INTERNALLY COHERENT: line 317 buries Zechariah ܓܢܒ ܚܓܝ — 'beside Haggai' — which is the traditional account and which matches line 305's burial of Haggai 'beside the tomb of the priests'. The two lines corroborate each other inside the page. The capitulum says nothing about either burial.
